I absolutely love Ayurveda for the beauty of a simple approach towards any life imbalances. Once you start learning about it more, you discover that if you simply follow laws of Nature, inside of you and outside, you can live a healthy and harmonious life. Today I would like to share 10 secrets of Ayurveda for women. This ancient knowledge of life offers us a few things to make us happier and healthier.
Before I dive into them, let me quickly remind what else Ayurveda can offer us. Simply put, this is an ancient art of living life, as well as an ancient system of medicine from India, that allows us to purify our body and spirit fully. This, in turn, will give us an opportunity to improve relationships with our loved ones, family, and friends. And what is a woman without relationships of any sort? It is her life.
Ayurveda wisely looks at each person from the perspective of individuals traits, daily rhythms, and constitutions. There is no same approach to any person, which makes Ayurveda so profound and effective. Opposite to the regular medical system, Ayurveda takes into consideration the environment you live in, your body type, your age, the condition of your current health, your food habits, and many other things that make us uniquely us. Ayurveda for women is no exception as it offers a thousand old advice to modern women that are still perfectly applicable and effective. How to stay beautiful and youthful with our crazy rushed life? Women are highly stressed now and Ayurveda offers beautiful and gentle ways to help us with that.
Here are some of the Ayurvedic secrets that are specifically for women.
1. Good Sleep
Sleep is our everything, like really. Most, if not all, issues that women have are simply because they don’t sleep enough or right. You can read into the science of collagens that start restoring our skin from 10 pm to 2 am, and if you are awake at this time it won’t happen (and collagens are our wrinkle-free glowing skin and lustrous hair). It is simple: to be beautiful you need to be healthy, and to be healthy you need to sleep and restore your energy while you do it.
According to Ayurveda, every woman should go to bed no later than 10 pm, and get up right before 6 am. Honestly, I managed to go to bed early and I love it for the last 12 years. Getting up earlier is another story, but I am getting there. If you stick to this schedule, with time you will feel this natural kick of energy, you will do a lot of things just during the sunrise only, and plus many additional tasks you kept wanting to do every day. Also, you will discover that inner calm and peace everyone is looking for. Try it.
2. Good Eating Habits
You will love this one. Women need to eat more sweet stuff. Yes! Sweet taste harmonizes and balances our hormones naturally, and that means – better female health, better moods. This does not mean that you can have chocolate cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner now. Ayurveda says sweet taste can be found in other products that are healthier for you: bananas, dry fruits, Ayurvedic sweets, and dairy products. Another important ancient tip is to eat sweet taste foods in the first half of the day, so before 12-1 pm. So, skip those pieces of cake after dinner, they won’t do you any good.
Another good thing to eat is vegetables. Especially they are good for women as dinner. It is better to avoid all flour products (yes, pasta and breads are no good still, nothing new). And additionally, Ayurveda always advocates for a vegetarian diet, and it is especially true for women. The energy of meat carries heavy frequencies of violence, death, and aggression which really completely contradicts the delicate woman’s essence and as a result will harm her health. No brainer here.
3. Good Sex
Who does not want it? Together with two previous basic human needs, this is the third important one. So, having said that, sexual energy is no less important than our vital energy since this is the energy that brings us all to life. And let’s be honest: whether we like it or not, our sexual energy and sexual organs are created to create more life, to make babies. In Ayurveda, there is a principle called Brahmacharya that is about a wise approach and use of sexual energy. If we use and distribute it mindfully, our female health greatly improves from it. What does “wise use” exactly mean?
It is not good to completely avoid sexual activities (unless you are following a certain tradition or practicing a certain spiritual practice), as well as it is not good to indulge in it too much. Everything should be in moderation. The good news is, when a partner we love touches us, the hormones of happiness get released that in turn strengthens our immune system. In ancient Russia dirty old ladies would say that “all-body heater” is the best remedy. And also, whatever is good for the body generally good for emotions and our soul. However, if there is too much pleasure from too many different men then it creates excess and causes issues with female health. So, remembering about moderation in sex life is a good idea, and once in a while practicing Brahmacharya just to accumulate some of this energy and stay away from depletion.
4. Good Clothing
I am always advocating for dresses and skirts for women. It looks great all the time, and plus it is actually very healthy for us. According to Ayurveda, if you are a woman, learn to love your dresses, no matter how much you love your skinny jeans. The reason here is the direction of energy. In men, this energy goes upward from the earth to the sky, so it is more natural and easier for them to wear pants. In women, it is the opposite and it is connected a lot with the reproductive system.
If we keep that area tight, it will eventually creates tension and blood stagnation which will eventually bring all kinds of diseases. It can be hard to understand what we don’t see with our own eyes, but really the type of clothing directly affects our female health and our hormones. Ayurveda really suggests to not constrict your legs and pelvic area with pants. Try wearing a skirt for a week and see what happens.
5. Good Work
I will go ahead and destroy it completely for all of the feminists out there: women are not made for work, they are made for love. Ideally, a woman is made to love her husband, her children and to create a cozy home. Because it is woman who is responsible for this part of life. However, the modern world of very active women is trying to tell us it is wrong. So women now have both careers and babies, often joggling the two because unlike men who don’t have to and cannot feed babies with breastmilk, they are also mothers and children need them. And so we have busy businesswomen with breast pumps in their purses now. Of course it creates all kinds of stress and health issues, and our mental health suffers as well. This in turn harms our dear hormones that causes depressions and diseases. You get the idea.
Women are not made for work, they are made for love.
I completely understand that not everyone has an opportunity to become a perfect housewife with pretty babies and an ideal cooking skills. You just need to remember that being a woman means having a special mission, different from men. And this mission is in dedicating and spending more time with family rather than career.
6. Walk Barefoot
I don’t know about you but once it gets warm enough I am always barefoot. Don’t get me wrong, I love my heels too, but to a certain extent. Heels are mostly for seductive purposes anyway. Ayurveda advises us that a woman can be much happier taking care of her home and spending time with family inside. This is where it is also easier to be barefoot all the time. But you can walk barefoot wherever you want in nature too. This is a very healthy habit to have because that is when a woman charges herself with healthy energy. Other things to do in nature to get energized: listening to birds singing, enjoy scenery, smell flowers. All of these simple things relax us and make us happier and calmer.
7. Makeup And Skincare
When you take care of yourself, you become beautiful by default. Ayurveda pays attention to woman’s beauty and skincare. Taking proper care of your skin will help you stay young naturally longer. It is strongly advised for a woman to have massages with aromatherapy, and to use only natural cosmetics. The best rule of thumb for skin care in Ayurveda is to not put anything on your skin that you would not put in your body. If anything, just try to avoid nasty chemicals in your skincare and makeup products.
In Ayurveda, there is are special procedures for health and beauty called Rasayanas. You only do it after you complete the panchakarma or deep cell detox. Even by doing just one panchakarma, a woman can drop 5-10 years after 3-4 weeks of this procedure. Self-massage is another Ayurvedic beauty ritual that is called abhyanga. It is especially good during colder months of the year.
8. Increase Your Femininity
Besides the part about pants and the need to go to job, a modern woman adopted a lot of other things from men, which actually is not very healthy for a woman’s psyche. So, to balance it out it is very beneficial for all modern women to get in touch with their femininity and cultivate feminine qualities. So, as I have mentioned before, you can start with wearing more skirts, paying more attention to your family and house, and just generally be more like a girl in life. What does it mean? It means – be tender, be kinder, be more caring towards others. This is it, nothing too complicated. The essence of a woman is this: tenderness, kindness, and care.
9. Be Kind
Be kind not only for your loved ones (or especially to your loved ones). Just remember random acts of kindness in general. This can be anything from feeding some seeds to hungry and cold ducks in the pond or giving new clothes for some mother and baby in need. Just remember to do as many acts of kindness as possible. Additional bonus, it would seriously improve your karma. Kindness also develops your maternal energy, which is very soothing for a woman’s soul, even if you don’t have your own children.
10. Meditate More
You probably heard this advice: meditate everyday for twenty minutes, and if you don’t have time – meditate for one hour. Meditation is an ancient tool and a remedy to many diseases. It is a proven method that is several thousand years old. It is hard to believe in it now because we have all got used to believe medical pills that supposedly have immediate effect. In reality, they don’t actually heal us. Even premenstrual syndrome can be healed by meditation. It helps alleviate pains, anxiety, it clears our mind, and just simply gives us an amazing mood overall. (And there is no need to kill anyone).
A simple internal observation of ourselves daily gives us a chance to understand what is going on inside. It activates our pituitary gland that is responsible for our endocrine happiness in the body and for our reproductive health. And it also activates our pineal gland that is responsible for our hormones of happiness serotonin during the day, and our hormones of sleep melatonin during the night.
A Woman’s health is the very basis of her happiness and beauty. If a woman is healthy, she attracts more love and more kindness in her life. Be healthy, be beautiful, enjoy the harmony around you, and Ayurveda will help you with that.
♡♡♡
I love your blog and agree with most of the stuff you are promoting. I love how you teach and empower females and femininity and I agree that is very, very important to nature it. When I see (specially in North America) how woman neglect themselves (how they do not care how they look and can get outside and look like a blob of nothing), it bothers me. All those half naked trends they wear and wondering after why they attract wrong men. All plastic surgeries, fillers (and who know what else) to look nothing like themselves. Your mission to educate them in what woman should be, how to behave and look is admirable (and you have my full support in this). However, I do not agree with one of your statements (one only) and that is your 5th statement (it is too harsh for us who are not born to be a housewife’s, with bit more masculine energy in us as you would say; and we do exist). I love my job and I love to work; it does not make me unhappy and depressed (does opposite for me). I’m not feminist (modern feminist who goes too far in their preaching, in my opinion) by any means. I wear dresses and hills, take care of myself; men do open doors for me all the time (at work, in shops, my husband does it), they help me with heavy chores (exp. I never carried grocery bags myself) I’m happy. Work does not make me depressed (and I have high demanding job). I have children who are very good young adults. I would never live my work for any men out there. I love my independence and I do not see that it makes me less famine. What I want to say, everything is balance and you can be happy having it both (being a lady and being a business woman, there is a time and place for everything). Having said this, if female like to be housewife and stay home and take care of family in traditional way, I support this idea all the way, but the are some of us who are not happy to be just that and I do think (my humble opinion) that we are not less females and live less harmonious lives just because we are not following traditional female description.
Hi Gordan! Thank you for your comment. I see what you mean and where you are coming from. By no means I meant to say that if a woman works she is less of a woman. I work full time myself (and it seems to me that readers begin to think I don’t). I was trying to say that psychologically and physiologically it is more demanding for a woman to be a part of the working or business world rather than for a man. And there are many reasons for that, and my blog has a lot of articles about why it is so. We can do a lot of things better than men and stay fabulous. But what for?
