Ayurveda is an incredibly wise medicinal system based on a simple idea: everything is nature can be our medicine, and our body can always heal itself. We only need to learn more about all of this. Here are a few recommendations from Ayurveda about meals for women for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Breakfast
It is important to understand what to eat and when. For each product there is a specific time of the day, where if eaten it can be very beneficial, and our body would be able to digest it better. Breakfast is a very important meal in Ayurveda. If we get up early and eat something that is not we should be eating, we will end up being sleep and sluggish again. And unless we need to go do work, we’ll probably end up in bed again for another nap.
For most women the typical breakfast would probably be sandwiches, toasts, muffins, cereal or hot oatmeal. However, often times, you may feel a little fatigue right after eating this. While it may be a consequences of gluten, it can also be simply inappropriate food for an early time of the day.
What should you eat for breakfast?
+ Avoid eating grains and beans for breakfast. So, that means – no bread or oatmeal. The exception is buckwheat. Breakfast time in this case is around 6 am.
+ Fruits are the absolute best for breakfast. If the season is warm, fresh seasonal fruits are very good. If it is colder time, dry fruits would be better. For some women, of Vata Dosha (slim and slender type), dry fruits should be soaked in water for a little bit before you eat them.
+ Dairy is also very good. Make sure it is organic. Everything dairy will be beneficial. Milk is best consumed prior to 6 am in its raw condition. For instance, if you got up at 5 am, and you have breakfast after about half an hour, you can still drink some milk. However, make sure it is warmed up, sweetened with something and have some spices. Cinnamon is the best morning spice.
+ Sweets are also the best for the morning meal. Women should be eating sweets in the morning in any shape or form (except for cakes, because as we remember it is still from grains). You can eat candies or chocolate, and your hormonal system will thank you for that. If you don’t eat enough sweets, there is a high chance your hormones will make you a grumpy old lady. And don’t worry, whatever you eat for breakfast will be fully digested by mid day and won’t shop up in your weight and size.
+ Avoid eating heavy food, or large size portions. Although breakfast should be satisfying, it should also be easily digestible. The ideal breakfast should wake you up, not make you sleepy.
Try to experiment and see which food combination you like more for breakfast that will also make you feel energized and ready for the day.
And another rule for women only: it is important for us to eat often with smaller portions. And the more variety of tastes we try, the better it is for our emotions. Different tastes (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent) help us to “digest” our own worries and calm us down. That is why it is okay for women to have second breakfast, around 10 am. And you can still eat something sweet too.
Lunch
The best time for lunch is between 11.30 am and 1 pm. No later than 2 pm, at least.
Lunch should be largest meal of the day. If you have your lunch at the appropriate time, you can eat literally almost anything. The reason for that is because noon is when our digestive fire, or Agni, works the best and strongest. So this is the perfect time to have several course of meals, and not just one.
What should you eat for lunch?
+ You can eat grains for lunch
+ Anything with high amount of calories
+ Anything made with flour.
The rule is just not to overeat. You should finish your meal feeling satisfied, not heavy. Eating our main meals at this time of the day will help us stay healthy and beautiful for a very long time.
Dinner
Ideally, according to Ayurveda, you should not have dinner after 6 pm. However, between lunch and dinner woman can have light snacks – fruits, nuts or seeds.
What should you eat for dinner?
Here are the main rules for dinner:
+ Avoid grains and beans again. You digest them with the help of Sun energy, that is active between 12 pm and 2 pm. So, if in the evening you eat a muffin, it will be digested only the next day, not this evening. And while it remains in your stomach until that time, it will create not the best environment. On top of that, this will prevent you from waking up early, and if you do wake up forcefully, you will be tired and sluggish already. So, if you avoid eating grains and beans for dinner, it will also help you waking up earlier.
+ Vegetables are the best food for dinner. They can be raw or cooked, depending on the season. You digest them with the help of Moon energy, so it is a perfect time. All veggies are good, but limit the amount of potatoes and tomatoes. Potatoes are somewhat of a heavy food. And tomatoes are actually closer to berries family rather than vegetables.
+ Milk is also good for evening meal. If you are hungry after 6 pm, have some warm milk with spices. Best evening spices are cardamom, for example. It balances your energies and also facilitates good sleep.
Milk secret
A little note about milk. It is important to consume organic raw whole milk. However, it is not enough. Since most adults do not consume it, you may either replace it with any non-dairy version, or simply prepare it Ayurvedically. The reason for why most people cannot digest it is because most of us do not consume it right and probably in a wrong amount. A proper milk for adult would be always warmed and with spices. For women, sweetened additionally, milk has one of the most healing and nurturing lunar energy. This subtle energy balances us out internally and calms our mind. Milk is considered a concentrated form of love. It is truly a gift of nature for women, according to Ayurveda.
Please, always listen to yourself and your body carefully, before you consume anything.
