Following previous article about Calm Water, and action in inaction, I am sharing today some very special practice of relaxation for women that I feel is very needed nowadays.
As much as we don’t like to accept it, we do have to have rest to be able to do even more. For women it is especially important, and what is more important is to have rest in a feminine way. You may think “There is a feminine way of doing it??” Of course there is 😉 Like everything else! Here is the secret of relaxing like a true feminine lady that you are.
To have rest means to restore the energy, to relax, to recharge, to reset your whole system but for us women it also means to receive enough of woman’s energy. This is why it is important for us to relax in a feminine way. This practice of relaxation is called Doing Nothing.
This kind of relaxation will recharge you like nothing else. The action of inaction is one of the strongest ways of restoring for woman because it brings her back to her true, Yin, nature – the nature of stillness. Most likely, after just one day of complete rest you will have a lot of energy for the whole month ahead. So once a month is enough but you are welcome to do it more often, if you are able to.
Now, it is important to prepare in advance. You need to pick one day and arrange everything: make sure no one tries to contact you that day, make sure that no one needs your help, and no one wants to invite somewhere out. It has to be prepared well because this will also help your mind relax better as you won’t be thinking about some unfinished or urgent business. You may let people know that you are not going to answer their phone calls, emails and texts. Nor will you open the door. Because of this, it is a good idea to stay away from Internet in general but if it is hard, at least, stay away from all social media. Remember: “social” is not the key word in this practice.
You can come up with a special name for this day, so that you can mark it in your calendar and look forward to it. It can be the Day of Nothingness, Dolce Far Niente (my favorite Italian expression that means “sweetness of doing nothing” or “pleasant idleness”), the Day of Silence and Bliss, Me-Day, and many other variations. This could a fun little activity before the storm of inactivity 😉
Important things that should happen today are:
+ wake up and get up very late
+ day dream while still in bed
+ laying in general all day long, in bed or on the couch, or hammock
+ read your favorite (!) books
+ watch your favorite movies
+ look through magazines
+ take very long baths
+ listen to a lot of music
+ do whatever your soul desires
Basically, the more passive – the better. The beauty of this day is to counteract our normal, day to day busyness and hustle, which only drains our precious feminine energy. In modern world these kind of days are a true treasure and luxury that we should be able to afford. This is why this day can never be called a waste of time, because it will literally bring us back to ourselves and allow us to get energized for a very long time.
It is very important to stop all kinds of mental activity. That means, to not think about anything in general, especially negative or complicated. So if you choose movies, make sure they will not bring you down to the rabbit hole of your emotional dramas. It is also important to not plan anything today, think of the things you need to do, think of the things at all. Just turn your brain off for one single day and simple BE.
