Even though there may be a lot of mysteries about our Moon time, or menstruation, there are some traditions that have already studied it inside out long time ago: physical, energetic and spiritual.
Ancient Tao masters were very skillful and knowledgeable in the matter of energy. Their main goal was not so much its accumulation but mostly preservation. They studied and mastered a great variety of techniques on how to do that, that can be applicable and useful for modern women. To be able to preserve energy, woman should know a few secrets that are actually pretty simple and natural. Once we tap into them, we will realize how much disconnected we can be and how easy it is to connect back.
Chi and Different Cycles
Chi is a universal energy in the teachings of Tao. Like Prana is in Yogic tradition. Depending on the the period of time, woman can have different amount of chi, or energy, in her body. This is normal, and it fluctuates all the time.
Ovulation is the time when we have the most amount of chi. This is because our whole body is getting ready to conceive new life. You may have noticed your activity increases when you ovulate. If you don’t know about it or haven’t noticed anything, I would suggest to pay closer attention to your cycle and maybe track it. After a couple months you will be able to see patterns.
Menstruation is the time when we have the least amount of chi. This is the period of cleansing, so we don’t need that much energy, since we don’t create anything, we are getting rid of something.
Following this logic, and with monitoring of our cycle, we understand that prior to the ovulation our energy increases more and more. This time is ideal for any new beginnings in life, starting projects, making decisions. It is when you are at your strongest so you can handle and resolve any complicated situations in life. The second half of the Moon time, after ovulation, is not filled with energy so much. This is the time of slowing down, until you make a complete stop and become still when the period comes. During this period it is better to not start anything new, and just introspect more, become an introvert and explore yourself. It is working inward, as oppose to the first half of the cycle, where you work outward.
The second part of the cycle is also a great time to analyze and finish all the unresolved and unfinished business. Since it is a slower time, it naturally calls to spiritual practices too. It is a good time to meditate and journal more. If you experience PMS, this is a sign that your emotional state is not stable. It is time to be involved in a more calm activities. If we do everything right, our Moon time will begin smoothly and painlessly.
If we remember these simple basics, we can properly plan our activities. We can be more aware of our emotions and create a more stable state of being. Moon time is definitely a time for relaxation and stillness. Women who were following Tao traditions would always make sure to retreat somewhere and spend this time alone. They knew that their sensitivity to everything was at its highest, so they would protect themselves from the outside world.
Moon Cycles vs Personal Moon Cycles
It is well known how closely we are connected with the Moon as well. Depending on its phase, women can feel more energy or less. And if we follow the moon calendar, we can also plan our activities accordingly. We can also understand what is happening with us. Full moon is the time when Moon actively and generously gives us energy. That is why it is ideal if our personal Moon time to start with the full moon. It creates a perfect balance, when we don’t have any energy and naturally receive it from the outside, from the Moon.
New moon is the time when there is the least amount of energy generally on Earth. If our cycle is in tune with the Moon cycle, this is the perfect time for the ovulation. This way, compensations happens one more time: Moon can barely affect us, and our body is filled with all the energy, ready to conceive. Another beautiful reason why it is a good time to have an ovulation, and hence to conceive, is because the energy of the New Moon is incredibly soothing and calming. It gives us a deep peace of mind and mental satisfaction. We are in our most harmonious state of mind. If you have period on the New moon, this can create a lot of weakness and even depression.
Knowing all this, it is probably good idea to try to synchronize your personal cycle with the cycle of the Moon. There are various ways to do it. One of the easiest one if to simply track them. Just get a journal and monitor both Moon cycle and your cycle. Write down how you feel depending on the moon phase, or even day. The more you do that, the faster body will become in sync.
Intimacy and Moon Time
Moon time is an excellent opportunity to introspect as deep as we can. Since this is the time of deep cleansing, the direction of the energy allow us, women, to dive deep into ourselves during this time. For the same reason, it is ideal to not get involved in the sexual intimacy simply to not disturb this flow of energy.
There is also a reason why woman is more sensitive to everything around her during this time. Scents and infections, diseases and weaknesses are overpowering. Usually spiritual traditions advise against the intimacy during this time for this reason too – simply to protect the woman during this special and delicate time. Even the exchange of the energy, not only bodily fluids, is not beneficial for both men and women now. If woman does it, she disrupts the flow of energy, that should go outward during this time and not inward. This is the way woman can purify herself on all levels. Since man doesn’t have this easy way of doing it, it is better for a woman to not make it worse for her man too. The only true way for him to cleanse on all levels is through a strict spiritual discipline and abstinence.
This time is ideal for receiving profound spiritual visions, answers to all the questions and opening of the heart. If we stay still enough and listen very closely to all the messages and feeling we get during this time, we can accumulate them more and more, becoming wiser every month. We only need to take a well deserved break and gather it all.
