“Our hair fashions might be just a trend, but if we investigate, we may find that we have been depriving ourselves of one of the most valuable sources of energy for human vitality.” –Yogi Bhajan
Long, healthy hair has always been a symbol of feminine beauty and energy. Today, many women long for it not only for style but because, intuitively, we know that hair carries power – it connects us to nature, to intuition, and to our own divine essence. This desire, perhaps, is based not only on the fashion needs but also on a subconscious way to accumulate energy and power. Intuitively, we crave long healthy hair because somewhere deep inside we know what it means. There is a spiritual meaning of women’s hair.
Historically, hair has been the symbol of femininity. We often refer to hairstyle as a way to express ourselves, a way to show our identity, freedom, our preference and style. However, there is another side of it, a hidden sense that is not known to most modern people. If you research deeper, you may find in many cultures and their ancient traditions the spiritual meaning and importance of hair, rituals, the special care routine.
Hair in history
For women, hair is the source of power and a direct connection to the Divine. Long hair especially enhances our femininity naturally and can help get in tune with our Highest Self, our Intuition. It’s no coincidence that women of wisdom and intuition – once called witches* – have always worn their hair long. Have you ever seen a witch with short haircut? 😉
The longer the hair, the stronger our female power is. Long hair helps in our personal life, it plays an important role and can make our relationships stronger. In ancient times in Russia all women had long hair and were braiding them. And it was considered as a very serious outrage and humiliation to cut them. It was equal to taking away the female power.
How does hair affect us, women?
In modern times, we cut our hair voluntarily. And how do we feel when we do that, remember? We feel lighter, we feel relieved and refreshed. Have you ever thought of why do we feel this way? Here is the explanation. Long hair is a representation of Moon or lunar energy. Short haircut and bangs are of Venus energy. So by cutting them, you energetically “move” from Moon to Venus. Which is good, however you’re loosing your Moon. Being filled with Moon energy gives you more emotional stability, more grounding and female solidity. Spiritually, Venus is representing the mistress, and Moon is representing the wife. You can stop here and meditate on that a little 🙂
When your hair feels heavy or bothersome, it often mirrors how you relate to your own feminine power. Or when you feel like it is too much, it is heavy, annoying, everywhere, this is simply the sign of you being unable to handle your own Feminine Power. To fix that, you just need to put your hair together. Try to notice the subtle difference in how you feel when it is loose and when it is in the bun. Do you feel like you are literally all pulled together and can accomplish more, when your hair is pulled together? Have you noticed that you usually make a bun when doing some work at home, when cleaning, when studying, when doing something very important? Meditate on that as well.
More on that later, and today, try to take a very good care of your hair, as it is a true and easy accessible source of pure energy.
Your hair is not just decoration – it’s a living antenna of your soul. Now that you learn spiritual meaning of women’s hair, treat it with reverence, and it will return grace, strength, and quiet wisdom.
*Witch here is not a reference to an evil character from fairy tales. Witch is a woman of Knowledge, someone who possesses a natural ancient wisdom and lives in tune with Nature.
