Now it is time to talk about our third main chakra, Manipura that is located around the area of the solar plexus. We have already talked about Muladhara and Swadhistana specifically for women earlier.
Manipura Chakra
This chakra gets activated and developed when we are between 14 and 21 years old. So what happens during that time? If on the previous chakra, Swadhistana, a girl realizes who she was, on this chakra she tries to figure out her place in this world. Most modern women know their place in the world and their purpose. It is not necessarily just their job but also how they express themselves in society, how they apply their talents and gifts. This chakra Manipura helps us to develop our ability to stay in contact with the world successfully, to be needed and to be self-expressed.
So if previous period of time, Swadhistana time, everything went well, at this age a young woman stops being focused only on herself and turns towards the world. However, if this is not the case, she stays on the phase of self-digging and soul-searching. This age is great to determine talents and abilities. And it is important for parents of the girl to accept her abilities and dreams.
As the biggest desire at this time is self-expression. It can be anything you want – singing, dancing, playing instruments, writing poems, arts and crafts. It does not matter, what matters is to discover those talents. And it can be any talent, really. Motherhood is also a talent. A girl can be not so capable at dancing or math, but she can be a great mother or a wonderful wife. This should not be stopped or ignored.
Manipura is our expression of ourselves, it is how we go out there into the world. It is a Sun of our personality and how we shine. If in the childhood the girl she was pushed and controlled in a different direction, “no dances, it won’t bring you money, you’ll be a lawyer”, in an attempt to create safer future, her Sun dims. That is why there are so many women out there who do not follow their calling and don’t know their purpose. They do everything else but what they should be doing. Which messes up their mind and emotions, their dreams and their life.
Earning a lot of money does not equal happiness. In fact in most cases, especially for women, that is almost never the case. Your calling and purpose is not your job. It is your essence, the core of your being. It is your mission that you bring into this world. And women try to find it in their job, try to be successful and build a career.
Male vs Female Manipura
Another reason why this type of activity won’t bring a woman true happiness is because this chakra is a male one. For a man, it is more natural and more healthy to go through struggles of building a career and to grow like this. If woman does that, she starts having masculine qualities: desire to earn a lot of money, desire to provide, desire to hustle, to be the first, to compete, to win and to fight. And also, to argue, to convince, to risk. Does that sound like a woman? Not really.
Women with strong Manipura chakra end up finding more feminine men, or someone who take advantage of them. And then these women complain why their men are not manly enough. Well, because a man in the family is a woman, at that point.
She takes control of life and becomes the one who find possibilities, opportunities, who organizes things, who buys everything, brings gifts. And these things eventually make her unhappy and miserable. Her precious gentle feminine energy gets depleted. And with time she is not able anymore to accept love, care and protection. She cannot accept it anymore. She cannot freely accept gifts, it makes her feel guilty and she thinks she owes something in return. This is wrong. This leads to neurotic breakouts and therapists.. and even then she still says “I got it, I can do it!”
The sad matter of the fact is, most modern women stop their energetic development on this Manipura level. These women are powerful, strong and independent. And they think they reached their potential. But yet, they are unhappy.
Hear me out. It is absolutely not shameful to be in need of something or to ask for something. If a woman doesn’t have something, it is great! It means she gives a man a chance to give her that, she gives him an opportunity to feel like a hero. And in fact, when she is in need (not needy!), she attracts stronger men who want to help her and give her what she wants. If a woman has everything she needs, and she can afford anything… well, a man cannot really do anything here, right? So the only thing that is left for him is to take.
Manipura Rebirth
If we don’t want it this way, we can try to nourish and heal our Manipura chakra. However, make sure you take care of your previous chakras first before you move further. Generally, this is the rule. Otherwise, it is not going to work.
Here are questions to ask yourself to harmonize Manipura chakra, i.e. to figure out your life purpose.
- What would you do if you were fully financially free for the rest of your life?
- How would you like to help people? What would you like to do for them?
- Who did you want to be when you were little? And why? (This is when we know for sure who we are and our mission, but then we get manipulated into something else and we start thinking our own desire was silly)
- If you could dream about anything, what would you dream about now?
- If you were 16 again, and you had to decide who to become, what would you chose?
- What would you do selflessly without wanting anything in return?
- If you had all the time in the world, what would you do?
- You always wanted to but scared to do something… what was it?
These questions are also great to share with any man in your life who struggles with his life mission.
Next time we talk about our threshold chakra, Anahata.

Hello Ayesha. I don’t follow any religion, I am just following my own internal intuition. As a woman, I know it does not lie. I feel the most important thing is to do what makes you and your woman’s heart happy. And as long as you don’t feel empty or unsatisfied, you can do anything. Just make sure to not forget that you are a woman with woman’s nature.
